Frequently Asked Questions
- Do the courses comply with legislation?
- Yes – all courses comply with all current legislation and fulfil the criteria laid down by NVQ’s, Skills for Care, CQC, HSE and individual course requirements.
- Are the courses accessible for people with disabilities?
- Yes – on most of the courses we can cater for people with disabilities, however on courses where practical elements are involved this may be difficult for someone with physical disability. Please ask the Training Manager or Course Tutor for specific answers to this question.
- Do we get certificates?
- Yes all courses have certificates.
- How long do certificates last?
- For statutory / mandatory courses the certificates are usually valid for twelve months. For other courses they are usually valid for three years.
- What are statutory / mandatory courses?
- Currently in the general industry sector these are Basic Life Support / First Aid, Moving and Handling, Health and Safety, Fire and Evacuation Safety. In the care sector Infection Control, Food Hygiene, Abuse Awareness are also on the mandatory list and soon Care with Medication may be added to this list.
- How long do courses last?
- Depending on the course anywhere between 3 and 30 hours. Most day courses run between 0930 and 1630 hrs. The finish time does depend on the number of learners on the course and the amount of practical work needed.
- Do I have to do all the hours?
- Yes – certificates will be withheld or altered to show the sessions covered if time is missed.
- Can I split the hours?
- Yes – most courses are done in three hour sessions, so it may be possible to do one session at time. However you have to weigh that against the need for extra revision and homework if the course is split.
- If I am on refresher for mandatory / statutory training do I have to do all the course?
- This depends on the course and the amount of changes from the last time you did the course. Speak to the Training Manager or your Course Tutor about this, because they will have the up to date information on refresher training times.
- Can I run course at my establishment?
- Yes as long as you have at least 8 learners and sufficient room to allow those learners to work effectively. Speak to the Training Manager about how much room you will need.
- Do I have to pay for the course before it is held?
- It is preferable to pay before the course is held as this will allow the learner to get their certificate in shorter period of time. On courses where funding is available then the invoice must be paid before the course. Certificates are not issued until payment is received.
- What if I have less than 8 learners at any one time?
- You can send learners on one of our open courses designed for just such occasions where learners will be from similar work settings but different establishments.
- Are there any other costs involved ?
- If there is excessive mileage to the venue, (more than 50 miles radius of Blackburn) there may be travel costs incurred for the trainer. If the venue for the training is more than 2 hours driving time from Blackburn then overnight accommodation may be charged for.
